Srikalahasthi Pipes Limited – SPL (Formerly Lanco Industries Limited is one of the leading manufacturers of Ductile Iron Pipes (DI Pipes) having the manufacturing facility in Rachagunneri village on Tirupati – Srikalahasthi Road, Srikalahasthi Mandal, Chittoor Dist. Andhra Pradesh. The integrated facility comprises of Backward and Forward integration units in a centralized complex spread over 200 acres.

D.I. pipes are supplied to various Water Boards, PHED, Municipal Corporations, MES, Railways and Turnkey Contractors across the country for their Water Infrastructure Projects which is the thrust area of the Govt. of India.

Srikalahasthi Pipes Limited (SPL) is an Associate Company of Pipes major Electrosteel Castings Limited (ECL), which is a five-decade old water infrastructure company providing techno-economic solutions for water supply and sewerage systems. ECL is India’s largest and one of the few manufacturers in the world to make Ductile Iron (DI) Pipes, DI Fittings and CI Pipes, having its facilities in Khardah & Haldia in West Bengal and Elavur in Tamil Nadu.

By virtue of core business of manufacture and supply of DI pies for the Water Infrastructure Projects across the country, the Company is categorized as Public Utility Services Industry engaged in Water Infrastructure Development by the Government of Andra Pradesh and takes pride providing potable drinking water across the country.

INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Own Railway Siding : SPL has its own electrified railway siding to accommodate two full rakes at a time and the siding is being utilized for bringing iron ore from Hospet, Coal from Chennai/Krishnapatnam Ports and for despatch of pig iron to Punjab and occasional for despatch of cement through railway wagons.
  • Leased Plot at Krishnapatnam Port : A dedicated plot is taken on lease basis at Krishnapatnam Port to accommodated the coal imported from Australia.
  • Water arrangement: SPL has long term agreement with Tirupathi Municipal Corporation (TMC) for supply of sewerage water for 25 years supported by appropriate GO of AP Govt. This is first of its kind initiative to utilize Sewerage water for industrial use in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Power : SPL's unit is connected with 132 KV power for 15,000 KVA and thus can draw additional power for future expansions.
  • Material Handling facilities : SPL has got its own transport division with more than 60 equipments like tippers, pay loaders, JCBs, Hydra Cranes, Coles Cranes, Fork lifts etc., with sufficient garage/ maintenance shop stuffed with appropriate manpower to cater to the day to day handling of various materials in all the Divisions.
  • Long Term leased limestone mines in Kadapa : SPL has got three Limestone mines in Tippalur, T.V.Palle & Kazipet in Kadapa Dist. and such limestone is being consumed in the Mini Cement Plant as well as in Mini Blast Furnace.

PROFILE OF INTEGRATED FACILITY

  • Coke Oven Plant : SPL has got three Batteries (each with 34 ovens) and having a capacity of 1,75,000 TPA coke of Blast Furnace grade. Coke oven's coal requirements are mainly met from Australian mines.
  • 12 MW power Plant : The power plant is based on waste heat recovery of Coke Oven Plant and no other fuel is used in generation of power and the entire power generation is being used for captive consumption.
  • Mini Blast Furnace : SPL has Tata Korf MBF with a capacity of 2,75,000 TPA liquid metal equipped with Hot Blast Stoves and Sinter plant. In the manufacturing process of MBF, generation of slag which is around 30 to 35% is utilized for producing slag cement in the Mini Cement Plant and the surplus slag is sold in the market.
    MBF has a 2.5 MW Captive Power Plant, which is run through its own BF gas and the present generation of power is 1.7 MW.
  • Sinter Plant : SPL has set up a 33 Sq.Mtrs. Sinter plant, having a rated capacity of 1400 MT / Day, with an objective to consume iron ore fines in place of costlier calibrated ore.
  • Mini Cement Plant : A mini Cement Plant was set up in 1995 in order to utilize the slag being generated from MBF. The capacity of Cement Plant is 1,00,000 TPA and is categorized as Mini Cement Plant as per central excise tariff. Slag cement produced in the cement plant is sold under the Brand “Srikalahasthi Gold” Cement. Around 15% of the production is utilized internally for cement mortar lining of DI Pipes in the DI Pipe plant and balance quantity of slag cement (PSC) is sold in Chennai/AP/Kerala markets.

    The Cement plant has 2 Nos. Vertical Shaft Kilns of capacity 100 TPD and 60 TPD with a cement mill. Major raw material used in the Cement manufacturing is limestone, which is sourced from leased limestone mines of the Company situated at Kadapa Dist. in Andhra Pradesh. By-products namely coke fines and iron ore fines also are utilized in the cement plant.
  • Ductile Iron Pipe Plant :The core business of SPL is manufacture and supply of DI Pipes. All other infrastructure mentioned above are backward/supportive integration for manufacturing DI Pipes. The capacity of DI pipe plant is 2,25,000 TPA. Liquid metal from MBF is the major raw material and power generation from 12 MW CPP is mainly utilized in DI Plant. An additional Annealing Furnace was installed in 2009, which is designed for using BF gas and thus oil (HSD/LDO) consumption is reduced significantly. There is flange pipe unit, which produces Flange pipes, as per market requirement.

    Profile of the plant:- Induction Furnaces – 6 Nos., Converters – 2 Nos., Spinning Machines – 8 nos., Annealing Furnaces – 2 Nos., & Finishing Lines 5.

Eco-friendly initiatives :

SPL is continuously committed to environmental protection and preservation of natural resources by adopting and implementing the Principles of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. To name a few :-

  • Effective utilization of solid wastes like Slag, Coke Fines and converting the same in to slag cement.
  • Substitution of LDO/HSD in Annealing with Blast Furnace Gas.
  • Waste gas generated from Coke Oven Plant & Mini Blast Furnace is used for power generation.
  • Usage of Tirupati Municipality’s sewage water for our various industrial applications, thereby conserving ground water resources.
  • Effective utilization of solid waste generation across the plant by converting the same into bricks useful for civil constructions.
  • For laudable contribution for the environmental protection, SPL was awarded The Best Industry practicing Cleaner Production Technologies and Climate Change Mitigation Measures” by APPCB.
